Haunted by trauma from her past and concerned about a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family. After spending a tense beach day with friends, the family returns to their vacation home. When darkness falls, they discover the silhouette of four figures holding hands as they stand in the driveway: doppelgangers of themselves who have been hiding in an underground facility, waiting to come to the surface to switch places.
I'm not typically a fan of horror, but the final confrontation between Adelaide and her doppelganger, Red, is now one of my favorite movie moments. The fight scene decides who gets to stay and live above the surface. We get glimpses of a moment that defined their connection: Adelaide performing at a ballet recital, at a theater, with a full audience, and Red mirroring the same dance in a dingy hallway with shadowed doppelgangers standing motionless behind her. It's a tense scene, but the choreography is absolutely striking.
