The Pacific Crest Trail runs 2660 miles, from California's border with Mexico to Washington's border with Canada. In 2016, Irish cartoonist Luke Healy took to the trail, hoping that this trek would crush his obsession with the United States after a lifelong fascination and multiple failed attempts at obtaining a visa.
Luke talks about his experiences in America, the many people he met on the trail, and, since this was his very first time backpacking and camping, about the resilience of the brain and body. This mix of comics and written narrative makes for an immersive reading experience. I really enjoyed his illustration style and I don't believe I've seen anything else quite like it.
