In 1975, during the fall of Saigon, Phuc Tran and his family immigrated to America and landed in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. There, almost no one else looked like them and they didn't feel accepted by their community. Over the years captured in this book, Phuc desperately looks for a place to fit in.

In this memoir, told through the themes of great books such as The Metamorphosis, The Scarlet Letter, and The Iliad, Phuc navigates the push and pull of finding and accepting himself while attempting to meet the rigid expectations set by his immigrant parents. He finds solace and kinship in the wisdom of classic literature and, in the subculture of punk rock, he finds affirmation.
