Chamber of Commerce Business Book Group

The Merrimack Chamber of Commerce’s Business Engagement Committee and the Merrimack Public Library will be partnering in 2018 to offer a monthly Business Book Group.  We will read books covering a variety of topics that are of interest to business people, including leadership, finance, hiring and strategic planning.  This will also be a great opportunity to network with fellow business leaders.  The group will meet monthly on the second Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm in the Library’s Lowell Room.

The September selection is Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion by George J. Thompson, PhD and Jerry B. Jenkins.

Verbal Judo is the martial art of the mind and mouth that can show you how to be better prepared in every verbal encounter.  Listen and speak more effectively, engage people through empathy, avoid the most common conversational disasters, and use proven strategies that allow you to successfully communicate your point of view and take the upper hand in most disputes.

Verbal Judo offers a creative look at conflict that will help you diffuse confrontations and generate cooperation from your spouse, your boss, and even y our teenager.  As the author says, 'when you react, the event controls you. When you respond, you're in control.' description from Amazon.com

Please register on the Library’s  website so staff can plan accordingly.  Circulating copies of the book can be picked up at the Library's Circulation Desk. Any questions can be sent to Library Director Yvette Couser at ycouser@merrimacklibrary.org
