Gravestone Girls

Cemetery educators, The Gravestone Girls, whose mission is the "Keep Our Dead Alive," will be presenting a virtual tour, called, "Welcome to the Graveyard," a 90 minute Powerpoint chronicling New England cemetery art, history and symbolism.  From colonial burial grounds, through the rural cemetery movement of the 19th century and into 21st century locations, the program examines why we have cemeteries and gravestones, why they look like they do and how styles and art have evolved over almost 400 years. 

In preparation for the program, the Gravestone Girls hit the road and visited Merrimack’s graveyards, taking many photos which will be used to create the evening’s presentation.
